Our Story
In my first year of university, my friends and I used to zip around the city on our electric skateboards. It was such a good way to get around - fast, fun, and just easy. But there was one big problem... communicating with other road users. We had no real way to signal when we were turning or slowing down, and there weren’t any proper safety lights on the market. Riding at night especially could feel a bit sketchy.
Like cyclists, we had to stick our arms out to indicate turns - which just felt outdated and awkward, especially with how much tech we have now. As an engineering student, I couldn’t ignore it. It felt like something that should already exist - so I decided to try and build it.
I started experimenting with accelerometers and NeoPixel LED strips, trying to create a lighting system that could signal braking and turns - basically like how cars do it. Over time, the idea evolved. What started with skateboards grew into a more practical solution for bikes and scooters - where it could make the biggest impact right now. But skateboards are where it all began, and something I definitely want to come back to in the future.
